Meshdia - short for Meshmedia - is a social protocol for the circulation of imageries. Meshmedia is designed to create alternative circuits for cinema, outside the zones of conventional licensing. Incubated during UNITED SCREENS’ Think Well 4, Meshdia is an elastic infrastructure connecting a trans-local network of organizations, film practitioners, researchers, technologists, and more. Our goal is to tackle the limits of contemporary international film circulation that prevent amazing films from reaching a significant audience due to high degrees of centralization and the prominent role of gatekeepers.

Currently, Meshmedia is in the early research and design phase initiated thanks to the support of Beyond Culture of Ownership, a project by Serpentine Galleries and RadicalXChange.

The Meshdia protocol channels the cinephile’s labor of love in a techno-social system that formalizes new playful, forms of sharing, from the gift to the direct exchange, disseminating movies in different ways. What are unexplored paths for the moving images?
